Funeral services for Yancey “Yank” James Calhoun will be held at First St. Paul M.B. Church at Barton at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010. Rev. Billy Ward Sr. will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday in the Robert Lee Brown Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in the First St. Paul Cemetery.
Calhoun died Feb. 2, 2010 at his home. He was born on Jan. 26, 1940 in Mississippi to the union of Wilson Calhoun and Mattie Meeks. Both of who preceded him in death. He married Lessie B. Harris in 1990. She stayed with him until death.
He was employed by H&M Lumber Co. for 30 years. His favorite pastime was fishing and spending time with his family.
He confessed a hope in Christ at the late age of 69 at the First St. Paul M.B. Church.
Two sisters also precede him in death. He leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife of 20 years, Lessie B. Calhoun; two daughters, Donna Calhoun of Helena-West Helena and Tammy Calhoun of Minneapolis, Mich.; four brothers, John (Mattie) Calhoun, Cornelious Calhoun, both of Clarksdale, Miss., Otis Calhoun of Helena-West Helena and Thomas Calhoun of San Diego; two stepchildren; nine grandchildren; 10 sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; and a very special sister-in-law who was with him until death, Brenda Lamar; a special niece, Diane Spiceson; two very special play sisters (Honey) Deloistine and Maggie Ayers and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
