Funeral services for Earnestine Carter, 77 of Helena-West Helena, will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, March 6 at the West Helena First Baptist Church. Rev. Nathaniel Hull will officiate. Burial will be in Jackson Memorial Garden. Visitation is tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kincaid Funeral Services.
Earnestine Carter was born Earnestine Kemp on July 16, 1932 in West Helena. She was the fourth of six children born to the late Aaron and Ethel Kemp.
Earnestine accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior early in life at Freedonia M.B. Church.
She received her formal education in Phillips County and worked at various occupations during her lifetime. Earnestine married Jesse Carter in 1954 and bore 12 children. Upon relocation from West Helena to Millington, Tenn. she joined Greater New Hope COGIC. After returning to West Helena Earnestine joined the First Baptist M.B. Church where she served faithfully on the Mother's Board until her health failed.
Earnestine was known for her quick wit, honesty, good cooking and compassion for others. She was an avid reader of God's Word and not only a hearer, but a doer of God's Word.
Earnestine died Feb. 26, 201o at Helena Regional Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and 3 children: Joseph Earl, Ivory Bernard and Mitchell Henry. She leaves 9 children, Rev. Shirley (Samuel) Hines and Michael Carter of Chicago, Ralph (Melissa) Carter of Jonesboro, Calvin (Pamela) Carter of Millington, Bryan (Tina) Carter of Jonesboro, Louis (Nicole) Taper of Millington, Donald (Mary) Taper of Forrest City, Jacqueline Brown of Chicago, Audrey Dodd of Arlington, Texas; 2 daughters-in-law; 2 brothers, Roosevelt (Francis) Kemp of Grand Rapids, Mich.; Robert (Deloris) Kemp of West Helena; 2 sisters, Martha (Rev. Norman) Lewis and Virginia Hall of Helena-West Helena; 49 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
