Funeral services for Margaret Jackson Gillespie, 95, of Helena will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009 at the True Vine Baptist Church in Helena-West Helena with Rev. Lonnie Whitfield officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 6 p.m. tonight in the Stephens Funeral Home chapel.
Gillespie, born on June 11, 1914 in Lula, Miss. to Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Jackson, journeyed to be with the Lord on Monday, Oct. 29, 2009, leaving her earthly home.
Gillespie found hope in Christ at an early age at the MBC Church in Lula, Miss. She moved to Helena in 1951 and joined Beautiful Zion M.B. Church and later joined the True Vine Missionary Baptist Church in 1964. She served on the usher board and the church until her health failed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar Jackson and Gurgid Wilburn; a sister, Eula Mae Jackson; two brothers, Elvin Jackson and Oscar Jackson Jr.
She also leaves three stepchildren, a brother-in-law, William Cato of Chicago; a nephew, Elven Aurigola of Chicago; cousins, Essie Bush and Mary Thompson, personal care assistant; many nieces, nephews and in-laws; special friends, Angie Woody, Robert Manning, Shelia Hallway and family, James Crockett, Mattie B. Wilson and a daughter; and the entire True Vine Church family.
Stephens Funeral Home will direct services.
