Funeral services for Grenada Womack Jr. will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14 at the St. Paul M.B. Church. Rev. Amos Newell will officiate the service.  Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 13 from 5 to 6 p.m. Burial will be in Oakgrove No. 3 Cemetery.

Grenada Womack Jr. was born Aug. 15, 1955 to Grenada Womack Sr. and Legirtha Womack, Sr. in South Bend, Ind.

Grenada departed this life Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012 at Helena Regional Medical Center. Grenada confessed his hope in Christ at an early age at the St. Paul M.B. Church under the leadership of his grandfather, Rev. P.C. Claiborne. He sang with the Gabriel Airs for years. He graduated from Central High School in 1974. After school Grenada joined the U.S. Army for 2 years. He worked for J.C. Penny and McKnight Plywood Co. Grenada loved to read, draw, and write poetry. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Grenada Womack Sr., his grandparents, Rev. P.C. and Catherine Claiborne; Jessie and Caroline Womack, a brother, Audrey Womack, three uncles, Jessie, Eugene, and Edward Womack, three aunts, Annie Sullivan, Elsa Jean Pitts and Minnie Smith.

Grenada leaves to cherish his beloved memory, his mother, Legirtha Womack of Helena-West Helena; a daughter, Nichele Thompson of Syracuse, N.Y.; two grandsons, Christopher Thompson of Little Rock and Johnathan Turner of Syracuse; three brothers, Ira, Otis and Tyrone Womack of Helena-West Helena; two sisters, Kathy Caldwell of Helena-West Helena and Jacqueline Udenze of Philadelphia; an uncle, Earnest Womack Sr.; three aunts, Bobbie Jones of Helena-West Helena, Lerlene Amstead of St. Louis and Zenobia Baker of Chicago; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and dear friends; and special friends, Felton Jones, Dean Miller and Richard Donaby.
