Bertha Louise Thompson Cobb-Hyde, 99, of Helena, died Monday, March 1, 2010. She was born to Edward and Tena Thompson on Nov. 9, 1910 in Fitzgerald, Ga. Bertha was a devout Christian from childhood on and raised her children in a Christian household. She married W.C. Cobb and they shared 50 years together before his passing. Later she met and married George Milton Hyde. Along with her love of the Lord, she shared her love of music with others at every opportunity. She will be remembered for her beautiful flower garden, which she cherished.
Bertha Hyde was preceded in death by her first husband, W.C. Cobb; parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Thompson; brothers DeLoss, Rudolph and Curtis Thompson; sister, Willesta Williams; grandson, Jeff Traylor; husband, George Milton Hyde; stepson, Tom Hyde; and a stepdaughter, Louise Cooper. Survivors include a son, Denzil Cobb of Nebraska; a daughter, Albertina Arthur of Lexa; a daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Marv and Eloise Traylor of Helena; grandsons, Denzil Lee Cobb of Nebraska; Tony and Michael McDonald and Dr. Maurice Traylor, all of Arkansas; a stepson, Rev. Daniel Hyde; stepdaughters, Evangeline Beasley, Martha MacDermaid and Joy Reese; 14 step grandchildren, 7 great- grandchildren; and 19 step great-grandchildren.
A family service was held Tuesday at Kincaid Funeral Services Auditorium before her remains were taken to Fitzgerald, Ga. for burial. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. today at Evergreen Cemetery. Her stepson, Rev. Dan Hyde will officiate the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Church of the Nazarene, 1736 Hwy.49, West Helena, AR 72390.
