The Rev. William Andrew Cheyne Sr., 87, of Van Buren passed away in a local hospital Thursday, July 12, 2018. He was an associate minister of First United Methodist Church of Fort Smith. He formerly served as minister or associate minister of First United Methodist Church of Booneville, First United Methodist Church in Ashdown, St. Paul United Methodist Church in Little Rock and First United Methodist Church in Siloam Springs. He served on the board of Global Ministries and was a former Fort Smith district superintendent. He retired in 1995, and in 1996, he became a part-time minister of pastoral care at First United Methodist Church in Fort Smith. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Roebuck Chapel at First United Methodist Church in Fort Smith with burial at Roselawn Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home in Van Buren.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Earline (King) Cheyne of the home; two daughters, Debra Whitbeck of Holland, Mich., and Jane Cheyne of Springdale; three sons, William A. Cheyne Jr. of Sedalia, Mo., Ronald Cheyne of Edmond, Okla., and Dr. Stanley Cheyne of Farmville, Va.; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Cody, Steven, Kevin, Morgan, Sullivan and Garrison Cheyne.
