A 54-year-old Helena-West Helena man is dead and three more local men are patients in The Med in Memphis following two separate shooting incidents that occurred in the city Saturday morning and Monday night.
Scott Jones, 54, was shot in the head by a stray bullet that came through his window at 4 a.m. Saturday.
Wounded during the same shooting incident was Raymond Hudson, 28, who lives in the 300 block of Broads Alley. Hudson was struck in the right shoulder while at 120 South Biscoe Street, across the street from the Jones’ residence.
Deputy County Coroner Eugene Handley pronounced Jones dead at the scene.
Hudson was transported to Helena Regional Medical Center for emergency treatment and was later transported to The Med in Memphis, where he is listed in satisfactory condition.
At this time no arrests have been made. The investigation was turned over to the Criminal Investigation Division of the H-WHPD.
In an unrelated shooting incident, Derrick Gould, 20, of North 10th Street and Clark Bailey Jr. 18, who resides in 100 block of North 5th Street were shot while in the 200 block of North Sixth Street around 10:20 p.m. Monday.
Gould was shot in the leg and Bailey was shot in the side of his chest in the same incident.
Arrested in connection with the shooting of Gould and Bailey was Cedrick Mitchell, 21, and a 16-year-old Helena-West Helena youth recently released from jail.
CID officers said they expect to make formal charges against the pair later this week.
Patrolman Chris Hellums was the first to arrive at the scene and gathered information concerning the shooters identity and a description of their vehicle. Pfc. Dale Acosta spotted the vehicle a few blocks from where the shooting occurred. He stopped the vehicle and arrested Mitchell and the teenager. Both are being held in jail.
Gould and Clark are in stable condition at The Med where they are being treated for their injuries.
