aAThe sad, forlorn look in his eyes says more than he ever could. Fortunately, the male dog has been saved from euthanasia. Volunteers from the Humane Society of the Delta clearly remember the animal from his days in Helena-West Helena custody.
Volunteers say the dog was rescued from the Storm Creek Road area Wednesday, found tangled by a portion of chain attached to his collar.
“We knew it was him because when he was at the city enclosure, we tried to remove the collar and chain from him. He was so aggressive, we just couldn’t get close enough,” said Janelle Cobbs, member of the HSD.
The dog is currently being held in quarantine after biting a resident. The people who turned the dog over to the Society have decided to keep the dog.
Visiting the vet’s office where the dog is currently housed comes with a warning from clinic workers.
“He’s a bad dog so be careful,” warned veterinarian assistants.
The dog bite complaint is the second reported. One complaint was from a Wal-Mart customer. According to the Helena-West Helena Police, a customer was bitten on the parking lot and police suspect the animal was provoked.
Currently, Helena-West Helena animal control officers are only picking up dead animals or vicious ones, said Mayor James Valley earlier this week.
Members of the HSD say that if you encounter a dog that seems aggressive to leave it alone and call the Humane Society. Cobbs says call the Society, give a good description of the animal and location so that something can be done. Call 870-816-5979.
