Helena-West Helena Police have a suspect in custody in connection with the armed robbery of a 79-year-old Helena-West Helena woman Sunday night.
The robbery occurred at the woman's home in the 400 block of Broads Alley.
A neighborhood man, who was known by the woman, knocked on her door and asked for a drink of water. When she came back, he forced his way into the house and pointed a gun at her. She wrestled with him in an effort to knock the gun out of his hand but he shoved her down and reached in her housecoat pocket and stole her money and cell phone.
A man fitting the description of the suspect was arrested a short distance from the woman's house by Police Lt. Neal Byrd. Currently, police are in the process of filing formal charges against the intruder.
Criminal investigation officers reported that they were able to recover some of the cash and the woman's cell phone.
