Drowning victim’s body found

The body of a 30-year old former Helena-West Helena firefighter, police officer and sheriff's deputy was recovered in 12 feet of water at Storm Creek Lake in the St. Francis National Forest around 3:30 p.m. Monday.
The Phillips County Sheriff's Department received a report that an abandoned vehicle had been discovered at Storm Creek near the boat ramp.
Deputies found a pair of men's shoes, keys, a cell phone and the vehicle that Billy Yant was believed to be driving.
Dragging operations began and Yant's body was recovered after officers searched most of the day.
Deputy Brian Holloway said that Helena-West Helena Police, Helena -West Helena firefighters, the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission, the U.S. Forestry Service, the Lee County Sheriff’s Department and concerned citizens from the community helped them in searching and recovering the body.
Yant, a native of Tupelo, Miss., would have celebrated his 31st birthday today (Wednesday, Sept. 1.)
The Phillips County Sheriff's Department is continuing the investigation. Yant's body was sent to the state Crime Lab in Little Rock for an autopsy.
