Superior Industries has announced it will lay off 65 workers at wheel plants in Fayetteville and Rogers and that it will not fill another 90 open positions.
The company told workers Tuesday of the layoff plan, which includes closure of a plant in Pittsburg, Kansas, where 600 people work.
The Van Nuys, California-based company says it is reducing production due to the slump in auto purchases.
Superior says the Arkansas plants are able to make smaller wheels, which remain in demand. The Rogers factory turns out wheels for the Ford Mustang, Escort and Toyota Matrix. The Fayetteville plant makes wheels mostly for General Motors autos.
Prior to the layoffs, the plants had about 1,600 workers.
