Helena-West Helena Police Officers responded to an armed robbery call at Victory Fuel, located at 527 Columbia, Friday June 22, 2018.
HWH Officer Terry Daugherty spoke with store employees who stated a black male had entered the store, pulled a gun and demanded money from the register.
Two store employees sustained minor cuts and scratches scuffling with the suspect. During the scuffle, the employees wrestled the suspect to the ground and a round from the weapon was fired. The suspect, later identified as 29-year-old Lawrence Franklin Hayes of West Helena, fled the scene leaving a .32 caliber revolver, a red bandana and a ball cap behind.
Security camera footage showed a black male wearing a red bandana and ball cap enter the store and brandish a back revolver handing at the employees.
GIB detectives and Evidence Tech arrived and took the investigation of the crime scene.
While collecting evidence outside the store, a ZTE black cell phone was found lying on the ground. An authorized search was done on the black ZTE cellular device producing pictures and identity of the suspect. His name was retrieved from the login information.
Lawrence Hayes is a convicted felon with prior charges of aggravated robbery, aggravated assault, and terroristic act. Hayes is also a parolee under active supervision with the Arkansas Department of Community Corrections.
