Toni Black's painting, “The Gondolier,” was chosen as Brush Strokes June painting of the month. It is a small-scale but eye-catching work based on a photograph she took on her vacation in Venice. She used water-based oils as her medium and in her use achieved the subtlety of a watercolor. It is a brief glimpse of a gondolier and his passengers caught for a moment in the sun, but heading back into the dark mystery of the canals. Her painting is hanging in the Coronado Center Lobby until July 13.
