When one of those at the table with him heard this, he said to Jesus, "Blessed is the man who will eat at the feast in the kingdom of God." Jesus replied: "A certain man was preparing a great banquet and invited many guests. At the time of the banquet he sent his servant to tell those who had been invited. "Come, for everything is now ready."
But they all began to make excuses. The first said: "I have just bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please excuse me." And another said: "I have just bought five yoke of oxen, and I'm on my way to try them out. Please excuse me." Still another said: "I just got married so I can't come."
The servant came back and reported this to his master. Then the owner of the house became angry and ordered his servant: "Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind and the lame." Sir, the servant said, "What you ordered has been done, but there is still room" Then the master told his servant: "Go out to the roads and country lanes and make them come in so that my house will be full. I tell you, not one of those men who were invited will get a taste of my banquet."
God lets us know what is taking place in the past, present and future. But we, as human beings, some of us just don't pay attention and that leads to disobedience. In this parable, Jesus tells us that the wedding feast was not just for those back in the Bible days. But it is also for us today and the days to come. Let me break it down to you just a little bit. The King we are talking about is God and the Son is Jesus.
God is throwing a big dinner for His Son, Jesus and everyone is invited. The Bible tells us "whosoever will, let him come." The feast is not only for the ones who have already been fed but also for the ones who are hungry and thirsty for Jesus. And I also want to add that God is no respecter of a person, it doesn't matter what color you are, nationality or gender. He invited us all to the feast.
More so, just like today, we go out and invite people to Church to learn about Jesus the Son of the King. Some will come and some will turn the invitation down and go on about their business. But let me let you in on a little secret, whether you come or not, the dinner feast that God has prepared for His Son is going to take place, with or without you. He doesn't need us, we need Him!
God's invitation to the feast is sent out well in advance so that whosoever will, let him come. God is giving us time after time to make up our mind to get ready for the feast. God wants everyone to come but just like back in the Bible days, people are going to make excuses not to come. God told us to compel them to come to the dinner. That does not mean to force people in. Compel means to urge them to come not to force them.
As outsiders, people might not feel comfortable coming but we must let them know that God's arms are open wide to everyone who is willing to come back to Him. Happy is he who comes. If you want to be saved just ask Jesus to come into your heart and let Him know that "I make you my Savior and Lord."
God, I pray that you would take the blinds off of Your people's eyes that the devil has put on them so that they will be able to see and obey what You want them to do.
God, I pray that those who have turned their back on You would reconsider and turn back to You. You are the Living Word and only Jesus can save them.
God, I pray that many will accept Your invitation to the feast that You have prepared for us in Heaven. God forgive us of our sins for all have fallen and have come short of Your glory.
Help us, God, to be more vigilant about Your Word, open our hearts that we may receive Your words and obey them with happiness. God, we thank You for Your Son, Jesus who died for us. Jesus, we thank You for Your precious blood that only it can save and cleanse us.
Jesus, I pray that we all can come together one day as the family You want us to be, no divisions among us, all on one accord. We thank You for the Holy Spirit that is leading and guiding us through this world for we know this world is not our home. We are just passing through to get to the other side. Save us, guide us and protect us. In Jesus name.. Amen...
