Marvell-Elaine High School will hold their 2018 Graduation Exercise Friday, May 18.
The keynote speaker at the Marvell-Elaine High School Graduation will be one of Marvell’s favorite sons, James Wilken Nicholas Morrow Jr., who is a candidate for the House of Representative in the state of Georgia.
James Wilken Nicholas Morrow Jr. was born to the late James Morrow Sr. and Mrs. Ruby Morrow on July 24, 1974 at Helena Hospital. James’s father was a disabled veteran who fought in the Korean War. His Mother is a retired teacher and coach who worked for Marvell Public schools for 39 years.
In Mr. Morrow’s junior and senior year, he helped lead the Marvell Mustangs to 53-7 record which included back to back Final Fours and a Championship appearance his junior year. He received numerous honors, including All-Conference, All-County, All-Region, All-State and All-Arkansas honorable mention.
In addition to being an athlete, he was also Senior Class President for the Marvell High Senior Class of 1992.
After graduation, Mr. Morrow enrolled at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff where he was a member of the Golden Lion’s basketball and track teams. He was a three-year starter for the Golden Lions basketball team and set the record in the high jump with a jump of 6’10” ¾ his sophomore year.
To this day, his record still stands. While being a student/athlete at UAPB, Mr. Morrow was honored as Student Government Association Academic Athlete of the Year three years in a row. He was also a member of The UAPB Golden Ambassadors
Mr. Morrow graduated from the University of Arkansas of Pine Bluff in 1997 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and a minor in physical education. After graduation, Mr. Morrow became the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Philander Smith College while teaching at the Little Rock Juvenile Justice facility.
In addition to being a full time graduate student at the University of Arkansas of Little Rock. He graduated from the University of Arkansas of Little Rock with his Master’s Degree in Secondary Education with an emphasis in government, history, and economics in 1999 at the age of 24.
For the past 20 years, Mr. Morrow has been an educator and coach in Little Rock School District, Clark County School District in Las Vegas, Nevada, Atlanta Public Schools and currently Clayton County Public Schools. He has taught include-Economics, Geography, History, Political Science, Government, Physical Education and Health.
Mr. Morrow says it is his pleasure to try to help students become productive citizens in a global society. He has a genuine concern for the well-being of his students and would like to see all of them become successful.
In his free time, he loves traveling and spending time with his family.
After spending so many years as a teacher and coach, Mr. Morrow decided to enter the political arena. In 2016, he ran for State Senator to represent the city of Atlanta. He did not win but received experience that will help him in his future endeavors when it comes to politics. Currently Mr. Morrow is a candidate for House of Representative in the state of Georgia.
