A woman suspected of stealing tens of thousands of dollars from her place of work was arrested by Fort Smith police Thursday.
Daphne Haas, 41, of the Fort Smith area is believed by detectives at the Police Department to have stolen more than $26,000 from Heart to Heart Pregnancy Center, Cpl. Anthony Rice with the Police Department said. She was arrested on suspicion of theft of property over $25,000 on Thursday, according to a Police Department news release.
Haas is a director at Heart to Heart, the release states.
On March 10, detectives with the Financial Crimes Unit in the Police Department were told a "substantial amount of money" was missing from an account belonging to Heart to Heart. Detectives identified Haas as a person of interest in the following investigation, the release states.
Detectives interviewed Haas at the Police Department on Thursday after she agreed to speak to them about her involvement in the case. A felony warrant for her arrest was issued following the interview, the release states.
Haas was arrested and taken to the Sebastian County Adult Detention Center following the issuing of the warrant. She was charged with the corresponding offense at the Detention Center, the release states.
