Helena-West Helena police officer Williester Black was dispatched, assisted by Corporal Tyner and Lt. Bailey, to Fred’s Department Store, located at 826 N. Sebastian St, West Helena, Wednesday, March 28 for a break-in call that occurred overnight.
Lekitha Hull, Fred’s Store manager, told Officer Black when she arrived at work she noticed the front of the store was not in the same condition she left it in when she closed the night before on Tuesday, March 27. Hull stated she walked back outside the store and called the Helena-West Helena Police Department.
Once all officers were on the scene, Officer Black and Corporal Tyner along with K-9 410 cleared the inside of the store while Lt. Bailey cleared the outside and the back of the store.
Officer Black requested G.I.B. to investigate the crime scene.
Detective Nelson and Evidence Tech Mills arrived on scene and took photographs and gathered finger prints.
Dispatch advised the alarm company called about an alarm at the store from the back door at approximately 2:06 a.m. The video from the approximate time of the alarm showed a black male enter by scooting underneath the roll-up dock door, run through the store, jump the counter, punch in the code to the safe and grab items from the safe and run back through the store and back out the dock door.
Investigating officers obtained a copy of the video and the names of the key holders and employees with the code to the safe for the last four years. The investigation is still ongoing.
