The Helena-West Helena World would like to introduce Rick Wright as their new editor. Wright recently was the Managing Editor at the Hot Springs Village Voice, the largest weekly newspaper in Arkansas.
"I look forward to getting to know the people of Helena-West Helena and the unique people and families who live in the surrounding communities," says Wright. "It's an honor to have the opportunity to write about the people, places, events and rich history of this area."
Wright has several years experience in the newspaper business from the days of hammering out stories on an Underwood typewriter, spending hours in the photograph darkroom developing film, to the early computers with eight inch screens to today's newspaper technology. He has worked as a sports writer/photographer, sports editor; news reporter/photographer; and has been the managing editor at four newspapers over the last 41 years. Wright has writen for and managed newspapers in Mena, De Queen, Waldron, Dardanelle, Russellville and Hot Springs Village as well as in Mesquite, Texas covering thousands of sporting events, festivals, court cases and much more.
"I've had the honor of interviewing Arkansas Governors and other state level officials, city officials, law enforcement officers at state and local levels to fire department personel to bring the community current events and to inform the citizens of what's happening in their local goverments and communities," said Wright.
"I look forward to the challenge of recording the history, through print and social media, of the people of Phillips County and the surrounding communities for many years to come," says Wright.
