Melvin Edward Morris, 52, of Marvell,  passed Sunday, Dec. 24, 2017.

He was born July 16, 1965 to Harrison and Wilma Morris of Marvell.  

After graduation from Marvell High School with the class of 1983, he graduated from South Central Community College with an associate's degree.  He went on to obtain his master's degree as well.  

Melvin joined the Marine Corps in 1985. He served his country for 10 years as a Marine and later joined the Army Reserve. During his time of service, he met and married Gwendolyn Brown and to this union one child was born, Marquis Morris.

Melvin was preceded in death by his mother, Wilma Morris, two brothers, Ray Morris and Kenneth Morris and a sister, Carolyn Morris.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his father, Harrison Morris, III, of Marvell; a son, Marquis Morris, of San Antonio, Texas; four sisters,  Wilma (Rayvon) Foster, of Jacksonville, Mamie Smith (of Jacksonville, Mary Thompson, of Arlington, Texas), Patricia Arnold of Jacksonville; three brothers:, Aaron (Jackie) Morris, of Arlington, Harrison Morris, V, of Jacksonville, Sinatra Adams, of Marvell; a special cousin, Karen (Hayes) Miller, of Sherwood; and a host of nieces, nephews, and family. 

Family hour will be 5 to 7 p.m.,  Friday, Dec. 29,at the funeral home.  Funeral services will be 1 p.m.,  Saturday, Dec. 30 at St. Matthews Baptist Church in Marvell with Rev. Ricky Hubbard officiating. 

Interment will follow in  the Postelle Community Cemetery.
