Tis the season for residential and commercial burglaries and breaking and entering vehicles as thieves keep Helena-West Helena hopping during the holiday season.

A break-in at a Holly Street residence netted thieves a 45-inch Samsung flat screen television valued at $450 and a Play Station 4 and X-Box One, four controllers and Bluetooth speakers valued at $1,225.

Officer Corbin Dixon was dispatched to the Holly Street address on Dec. 18. After making contact with the homeowner, it was revealed that the theft had occurred the day before on Dec. 17. The man told police that he went to his house between 9:30 and 10 p.m. and noticed that the front screen door was wide open but the storm door was closed and locked. He noted that after entering the house he saw that the backdoor was closed and locked.

The man made a return trip to the residence the next morning and reported that other areas of the house had been vandalized.

The case is under investigation.

A zip-lock bag of medication, including a pain reliever and a muscle relaxer, were reported stolen from a parked vehicle in the Bart Street area on Dec. 8.

A woman came to police headquarters to report the incident. She stated that her husband attempted to turn on the ignition. The car wouldn't start and they noticed several wires were damaged. While her husband attempted to repair the wiring, the woman noticed that the car had been vandalized and property had been stolen from the vehicle.

The medication had been removed from the glove compartment of the vehicle. Police are investigating.

A break-in occurred at CenterPoint Energy at 1473 Springdale Road on Dec. 14 but nothing was reported missing.

Officer Michael Bedford responded to the call at approximately 8:53 a.m. An employee informed Bedford that he went to the back area where he keeps his trailer and noticed that the fence had been cut in a triangular shape in order to gain entry to a work trailer.

The lock and chain on the trailer had been broken.

The case is still under investigation.
