Ella Billingsley, 94, of the Southland Community, died Friday, Nov. 24, 2017 at her home.

Ella Billingsley, 94, of the Southland Community, died Friday, Nov. 24, 2017 at her home.

She was born in Lexa Sept, 13, 1923 to Albert Bone, Sr. and Essie Mathis Bone.   She accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Spring Lake M.B. Church in the Southland community.  

Ella attended Walter Southland Institute in Lexa, and served on the Spring Lake Church’s Usher Board from an early age until her health prevented it.  She also served on the Mother Board, Refreshment and Food Committee and many auxiliary committees throughout her lifetime. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.   



In 1942 she married Charles Billingsley, Sr. They had five children.  She worked with her late husband in the farming business until retirement, serving on the Farmer's Home Administration Board. She was known in the community for her baking.

 Mrs. Ella Billingsley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter, Eloise Billingsley Hopkins, 4 brothers, Albert, Jr., George, Elihue, William and Malvin Bone, two sisters, Junita Davis and Beneva Mayweather and one grandchild, Keith Hopkins.

She leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters, Belinda K. Melvin of Atlanta, Georgia and Damaris Thompson (Paris) of Helena-West Helena; two sons, Charles Billingsley, Jr. (Dorthy) of Lexa, and Albert Harold Billingsley (Juanita) of Atlanta; a sister, Anna Bullard of Atlanta; 14 grandchildren; 17 great- grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; a special niece, Maureen Billingsley; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be  5 to 7 p.m. in the Kincaid Community Center chapel in Helena. The funeral is Saturday, Dec. 2 at Spring Lake M.B. Church on Southland Road in Lexa. Rev. Gordon Lee will deliver the eulogy. Burial will be in Spring Lake Cemetery.
