Helener (Murphy) Gamble, 61, of Memphis, Tennessee  and formerly of Helena-West Helena, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2017. 

Helener (Murphy) Gamble, 61, of Memphis, Tennessee  and formerly of Helena-West Helena, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2017.  

Helener was born May 23, 1956, in West Helena to Minnie Bell (Lee) Murphy and Mike Murphy. She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at an early age.  

She married Robert Aaron Gamble, and to this union five children were born.

 Helener was a hard worker and made a living as a cook and housekeeper before her health began to fail. She was known for being loving, loyal, dependable, outspoken, genuine and a woman of great strength. Family was extremely important to her.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Helener was preceded in death by her father, Mike Murphy and three children, Linda Gamble, Teresa Gamble, and Robert Gamble, Jr. 

She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving mother, Minnie Bell Murphy; three daughters, Carolyn Murphy, of Memphis, Cynthia Gamble, of Helena, and Minnie (James) Blue of Gulfport, Mississippi;   five grandchildren, Derious Braswell, of Memphis, Dwayne Hazzle of Memphis, Aaron Gamble of Helena, Kyndall Blue, and Jaylen Blue, of Gulfport, Mississippi; siblings, Ulis Murphy of Chicago, Illinois, Iola (James) Jackson, of Helena, and Mike Murphy; an uncle and a host of nieces, nephews,cousins and close friends. A special and faithful friend, David Stewart, was instrumental in caring for her during her time of need. 

 

Visitation will be held today from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Kincaid Community Center chapel on Springdale Road in Helena. The funeral will also take place in the chapel Saturday, Nov. 18, at 2 p.m. Pastor James Blue will deliver the eulogy. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
