A 34-year-old Helena-West Helena man was beaten in an aborted robbery attempt that took place in the South 7th Street area of the city early Wednesday morning, Nov. 1.

According to police reports, the victim managed to escape his attackers and was able to fire shots at the suspects. Police units were dispatched to the scene at approximately 2:50 a.m.

A 34-year-old Helena-West Helena man was beaten in an aborted robbery attempt that took place in the South 7th Street area of the city early Wednesday morning, Nov. 1.

According to police reports, the victim managed to escape his attackers and was able to fire shots at the suspects. Police units were dispatched to the scene at approximately 2:50 a.m.

When officers arrived they found the victim bleeding from the head.

The man told police that he responded to a knock on his front door. When he opened the door, he was hit and knocked down by a black male, who was accompanied by two others.

According to the victim's account, the three men pulled him out of the house by the legs and dragged him across the pavement and began beating him. The victim told police the attackers demanded money and the keys to his truck.

The victim reported that he managed to get away from his assailants and got back inside his house. He said that he got his pistol and began firing as the suspects fled.

Pafford Ambulance was called to the scene to assess the extent of the man's injuries. He was transported by ambulance to Helena Regional Medical Center.

A search of the scene by police turned up seven shell casings near the man's residence. Witnesses told police that they heard four of five shots. None of the suspects or neighboring property were hit by the gunshots.

The victim identified one of the suspects.
