Phillips County was well represented in the food preservation competition at the 2017 Arkansas State Fair garnering several blue ribbons and a couple of Best of Show awards.

Haylie Bartlett of Marvell and Harmonee Griffin of Lexa brought home the Best of Show awards in the Senior and Junior Youth Divisions respectively. Bartlett received her award for her blueberries in the home canning, fruit competition. Griffin earned her Best of Show award for her pickled beets in the pickles/relishes competition.

Bartlett also won for blueberries in home canning, fruit; Lima beans and greens in home canning, vegetables and pickles beets in pickles relishes.

Griffin won blue ribbons for blackberries in home canning, fruit; berry in home canning juices; and peas and soup mixture in home canning vegetables.

Other winners from Phillips County in the Food Preservation Division were Delores Jackson of Marvell, Trish Monroe, also of Marvell, and Ruth Thomas of Poplar Grove. Jackson won with her greens and potatoes in home canning, vegetables. Monroe got a blue ribbon for her pickled beets in pickles/relishes. Thomas' apples gained her top honors in preserves and jams.

The State Fair, held annually in Little Rock, concluded Sunday evening.
