James Riley, Jr., born Jan 15, 1945 to James Riley, Sr., and Mary Riley of Helena, made his transition on Saturday Sept. 30, 2017. James Riley was a Navy veteran, a Free Mason, and a member of the American Legion in good standing.
Mr. Riley accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at New Hope Baptist in Helena. An avid reader, he also enjoyed computers, technology and multimedia production. He was self-taught and became so skilled that he founded Media Masters, a multimedia production and computer repair company that quickly became a staple in the community. For decades it grew to serve local residents, businesses, county and government offices alike.
Born and raised in Helena, he had a great love for his community and a growing concern for its residents. Seeing the recent increase in crime lit a fire in him to see a change, giving birth to ECOP, (Every Citizen on Patrol), a community organization established to observe for the safety and development of the community.
He was a well known legend in Stuttgart, as the first black DJ. in Stuttgart, where he spun records, tales and captivated the hearts of anyone that heard him. He could always be found with a smile on his face and a joke on his lips and he never met a stranger.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Riley and brother-in-law, L.V. Starks, Sr.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his sister, Geraldine Starks; his children, Tameka Riley, James Derrick Riley, Jerome Riley, Victoria Jackson, Carolyn Willis, Annette Johnson, Francette Rush, Bianca Nelson; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family members and many close friends.
Services were entrusted to Stephens Funeral Home.
