One of two prisoners that escaped late Sunday evening or early Monday morning from the Mississippi State Penitentiary in Parchman was apprehended in Phillips County sometime Tuesday.

James R. Sanders , 41, was captured Tuesday night. No details of the arrest were reported or the exact location where the arrest was made.

Sanders was convicted of murder in Lafayette County and sentenced to life in prison in 2000.

The second inmate is also back in custody.Mississippi Department of Corrections spokeswoman Grace Fisher says 22-year-old Ryan Young was captured Wednesday.

Young was caught in Mound Bayou, 15 miles west of Parchman.

Young was sentenced to 40 years in prison in 2015 after being convicted of burglary, grand larceny and illegal gun possession in Claiborne County.

Fisher says officials continue investigating how the men escaped and whether others could face criminal charges for helping.

No details were released as to how the prisoners escaped.
