On Tuesday, Sept. 19, patrons of the Marvell-Elaine School District are being asked to retain its existing debt services millage.

The district's total tax levy stands at 33 mills. Superintendent Joyce Cottoms stressed that the district is not seeking a millage increase.

“Continuation of the current debt service tax (8 mills) will help fund renovations to the high school gymnasium and front office area of the high school,” commented Cottoms. “It will also help with the purchase of new busses and the reconstruction of the track at the football field.”

There are no contested school races in the district this year. Mike English filed as the lone candidate in Zone 6.

Early voting in the school election began Tuesday at the County Clerk's Office at the Phillips County Courthouse. It will continue each workday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. And end on Monday, Sept. 18 at 4:30 p.m.

The polling places for the Sept. 19 election are: Fuller Seed, the Marvell Fire Station, Mount Zion Baptist Church, Trenton Baptist Church, Lake View City Hall, the Legion Hut at Elaine, and Mellwood Grocery.

Polls on election day will be open from 7:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m.
