The Helena-West Helena Kiwanis Club has selected Lt. Charles Atkins of the Phillips County Sheriff's Office as the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year during their Patriot's Day ceremony held last Sunday in St. Mary's Catholic Church's Parish Hall.

Beginning back in November 2016, the Kiwanis Club has recognized an Officer of the Month during one of their weekly meetings. The officers chosen were selected from the Phillips County Sheriff's Office and the Helena-West Helena Police Department.

State Representative and Kiwanis member, Chris Richey, read a proclamation from the Arkansas State Legislature and Kiwanis president Dana Chadwick presented Atkins with a plaque and a gift bag filled with items from local businesses. Each of the 10 officers recognized as Officers of the Month received a $50 gift card.

A reception followed the presentation ceremony.
