Funeral services for Jerry Parnell, Sr. will be held 3 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 26, at New Faith Baptist Church.

Rev. Izah Broadus will officiate.

Visitation will be held 4 to 6 p.m., Aug. 25 in Stephens Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment will be in New Zion Cemetery on Old Little Rock Road.

Jerry Lee Parnell was born June 30, 1957 in Helena, to Lottie B. Johnson and Sam Parnell. He passed away on Aug. 20, 2017 in Memphis, Tennessee. He confessed hope in Christ as a young boy at Galilee M.B. Church.

Jerry graduated from Central High School and then joined the Army National Guard where he proudly served his country. He later moved to Memphis, where he worked for the Corps of Engineers, and post office where he later retired.

Jerry's favorite hobby was playing and singing the blues, traveling the world and was a Beale Street Blues Legend. His favorite instruments to play were the keyboards, guitar, and drums.

Jerry is preceded in death by his mother, Lottie B. Johnson, his father, Sam Johnson, an aunt, Pearlie M. Parnell (Honey), Roy Parnell, and Sonny Parnell.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his four children, Jerry Parnell, Jr., of Helena, Niland (Chrissy) Parnell of Helena, Joel (Shequilla) Parnell of Memphis, and Natasha Walker (Terrace Bailey) of Helena; three brothers, Willie James Parnell of Memphis, Sam Dexter Johnson of Chicago Illinois, and Patrick V. Johnson of Atlanta, Georgia; three sisters, Thelma D. Johnson of Memphis, Debbie R. Johnson and Marcia A. Johnson, both of Southaven, Mississippi; two uncles, Charles Parnell and J. B. Parnell; 115 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a special friend, Lashelle Maunel of Memphis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly.
