The Delta Cultural Center will open a new exhibit entitled, “Special Presentation: Out of the Dark and Into the Limelight,” on July 6 at the DCC’s Visitors Center, 141 Cherry St.
This special presentation will display an assortment of objects in the DCC’s collection that have previously lingered in storage. Many of these artifacts have not been seen by the public in recent years.
Artifacts will be arranged together in four broad categories including trade and commerce, personal possessions, fashion, and artistic expression. Tags will identify what they are, where they came from, and what time period they represent.
Beyond these basic contexts no specific explanation will be provided to identify these artifacts’ historical significance. Visitors will be encouraged to surmise these objects’ particular stories using their own memory and imaginations. Some of the more remarkable objects on view will include Al Green’s performance outfit, an intricately crafted mosaic, a fur trade kettle, homeopathic patent medicine, and a giant cash register.
