Funeral services for George Hudson, Jr., 82, of Helena-West Helena, will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, June 10 at New Zion M.B. Church.

Funeral services for George Hudson, Jr., 82, of Helena-West Helena, will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, June 10 at New Zion M.B. Church. Dr. Mark Allen will officiate. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. 

George Hudson, Jr. was born Sept. 5, 1934 in Greenwood, Mississippi, to the late Willie Ester and George Hudson, Sr. George completed high school in Helena-West Helena and relocated to Chicago, Illinois. In 1986, he returned to Arkansas after the death of his father, to be with his mother.

George confessed a hope in Christ as his personal savior at an early age. He served honorably in the U.S. Army. He was also the first African American to land a job with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) as a highway tow truck driver. He was employed with General Electric (G.E.) and drove taxi cabs until his retirement. His hobbies included fishing, car repair and restoration, riding his lawnmower, and helping others whenever possible.

George is preceded in death by his parents, as well as his brothers, John Hudson, James Hudson, and Roger Hudson, Sr., a daughter, Georgiann Karen, and a son, Robert.

George leaves to cherish his loving memory, his children, Othel Renee Scott of Chicago, Illinois, Michael (Tamya) Hudson of Helena-West Helena, George Kenneth (Diane) Rogers of Kankakee, Illinois, Rodney Joseph of Chicago; his sisters, Myrtle Nelson, Mildverta Shead, Dr. Mildred Jean Hudson, Dr. Betty Pointer; his grandchildren, Ronald, Raphael, Bruce, Kenny, Jr., Candise, Darius, Brandon, Amir and A’mya; nine great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
