Mayor Jay Hollowell and State Representative Chris Richey, also representing the Phillips County Chamber of Commerce, welcomed a group of 30 paddlers making up the Rivergator Expedition to Helena Friday morning.

The Rivergator Expedition launched north of St. Louis and will eventually wind up at the Gulf of Mexico following a 6-week voyage. They will celebrate the first-ever published guide for paddlers on the Lower Mississippi River.

The journey includes over 30, including a documentary filmmaker, authors, travel magazine writers and paddlers from as far away as New Zealand and Belgium. The expedition is led by John Ruskey of Quapaw Canoe Company and the Lower Mississippi River Foundation.
