Police are seeking a suspect in connection with what appears to be Helena-West Helena's first homicide of 2017.

Police are seeking a suspect in connection with what appears to be Helena-West Helena's first homicide of 2017.

Chief Virgil Green reports that on Saturday night at approximately 10:25 local police responded to a 911 call in which the caller reported that a person had been shot in the 400 block of Sam Street. Green said when officers arrived they discovered a black male suffering from gunshot wounds.

Dead is 58-year-old Stanley Scott of Helena-West Helena. He was transported to Helena Regional Medical Center by Pafford Ambulance where he was officially pronounced dead.

"Investigators are currently interviewing people who were in the neighborhood at the time of the shooting," stated Green. "It's still unclear as to the motive of this shooting."

According to Green, a person of interest was later detained but has since been questioned and released by investigators.

As of press time, no arrest had been made and the shooter was still at large.
