Mary Sykes, 75, of Helena-West Helena, passed away March 8, 2017 in Helena.

Mary Lillian Sykes was born Feb. 5, 1942 in Oneida. She was raised by her father and mother, William Sykes and Clara Washington.

Mary accepted Christ as her savior at an early age. She met no stranger and there was always a smile on her face. Mary enjoyed baking, traveling and spending time with her family.

She leaves two daughters, Mary Denice Risper and Kym Sykes; a brother, Sam Ervin Tucker (Estella); 3 god-sisters, Teola Funches, Camille Germany and Shirley Key Garner; 12 grandchildren, Jamarcus Risper, Viniecia Wade, Kymmisha Sykes, Antoinette Sykes, Kammi Risper, Dyllan Beckwood, William Sykes Jr., Cheiana Sykes, Tommie Mooney III, Rena Robinson, Marlana Mitchell, Takeyia Sparks, Izear Jones, Izenae Jones; 21 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Rachael Gamble Sykes; three goddaughters, Trema Adams, Carrie Woods and Angel King; a very special son whom she loved as her own and who was with her at her time of death, Cyrus Thomas; a dear sweet friend and sister in Christ, Vernetha Jackson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and two wonderful care aides, Latonya Wilborn and Beatrice Robinson.

Visitation will be 6 to 7 p.m., Friday, March 17,in the Kincaid Funeral Services East Chapel in Helena. The funeral will be Saturday, March 18 at  11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of West Helena. Rev. Cedric Pride will deliver the eulogy. Burial will follow in Jackson Memorial Garden.
