Two would-be robbers were apparently scared off Wednesday night before they could rob the Tea Den on Oakland Ave.
Around 9:30 p.m. two masked men entered the restaurant and demanded money. Before they could get away with the money they became alarmed about something and left the restaurant without taking any money.
The best description the restaurant owners could give of the would-be robbers was that they were tall, black males wearing masks.
They fled the scene on foot.
Criminal Investigation Division Detective Roy Covington is investigating the robbery attempt.
The clerk at Motel 6 was not so lucky when three black males wearing ski masks showed up around 10:15 p.m. and entered the motel.
They demanded money and wanted to know the location of the motel safe.
The robbers made off with two small safes and an undetermined amount of cash.
The robbers told the female clerk to lie on the floor until they made their get-away.
Police recovered one safe in the area of St. Andrews and Russell streets. The second safe was found on Straub’s Lane. Both safes apparently were cut open by using a cutting torch.
