This Sunday, Feb. 19 at 3 p.m., the St. John Missionary Church Praise Team will present a special program “Smile”. According to Rev. Walter Debro Jr., assistant pastor of the church, the purpose of the program is to raise funds for a van for the praise team.
“We have worked and prayed with these children that they might become God fearing productive adults,” stated Debro. “We also teach them about love, family work ethics and about Jesus. We teach them the importance of education and abstinence. They are taught the importance of obeying the law, healthy lifestyles eating right and exercising.”
Debro continued saying that in order for these youngsters to continue their journey, they need a van to transport them to fellowship with other churches and other field trips.
“This will help us teach them that the world is bigger than their backyard,” Debro continued. “Remember, the more children we have in church, the fewer we have on the street corners.”
Rev. Julious McGruder of the New Zion Church of Helena-West Helena will be the guest speaker.
Rev. David Gray is overseer of St. John’s M.B. Church and Sister Shanta Harper is the praise team director. The public is invited to attend.
