Two Phillips county football players celebrated National Signing Day Wednesday by putting their names on the dotted line on letters of intent from two well-respected Arkansas universities.
DeKeathan Williams, an All-State running back for the Central High School Cougars, signed with the Arkansas State Red Wolves. Ethan Roberts, an All-State linebacker and a running back for the Barton Bears, will be playing for the Harding University Bison this fall.
Williams did not announce where he was going to play until he sat down at the table with pen in hand. He was surrounded by family and cheered by friends and classmates from the bleachers in the CHS Gym. Williams received offers from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, Mississippi State and Ole Miss as well as ASU, who will be under the new leadership of head coach Gus Malzahn.
Roberts inked a letter of intent with Harding University in Searcy. Roberts signed in the presence of his parents and former teammates and coaches in the cramped confines of the Barton High School Gymnasium foyer.
