The City of Helena-West Helena will receive $45,878 in U.S. Department of Transportation funds to design new runway lighting at the Thompson-Robbins Airport. This assistance will support the airport’s planning efforts in preserving and updating runway lighting, which will enhance safety for passengers and staff.
U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor and U.S. Representative Marion Berry (AR-01) made the announcement Monday.
“Our local airports help connect all areas of our state with the rest of the country, and reliable service is important to economic activity in Arkansas,” Lincoln said. “I am pleased to announce this federal investment that will help improve service and safety at the Thompson-Robbins Airport in my hometown of Helena-West Helena. I will continue working to secure funds that improve transportation and economic development in our state.”
“Local airports are vital assets for surrounding communities, attracting businesses and economic development opportunities and providing convenient travel options for residents.  These federal funds will help Thompson-Robbins airport make important safety upgrades so it can better serve the Helena-West Helena community,” commented Pryor.
“A great way to support our local economies is through maintenance and improvement of our local airports,” stated Berry. “Better airports mean increased traffic of passengers, goods and raw materials, and that boost in productivity helps create growth in the surrounding communities.”
