Summer reading programs continuing
Summer reading programs for children, teens and adults continue to be available at most area libraries. Many offer prizes for meeting various reading goals, as well as hosting several free, fun events. Visit FortSmithLibrary.org or CrawfordCountyLib.org or call your local library for information.
State park to host special programs
Brooks Blevins, an author and the Noel Boyd professor of Ozarks studies at Missouri State University in Springfield, Mo., will discuss "The Old Ozarks: Things You Didn't Know about Life Before the Civil War" at 2 p.m. Sunday at the visitor center at Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area, 20201 Arkansas 12 in Hindsville. Admission is free.
The park also will host a nature painting workshop led by Lyshell Reann Hiatt-Blech from 2-4 p.m. July 15 at the visitor center. Cost is $30 per person. Participants must preregister, and cash or check is due the day of the workshop.

Blood drives slated next week
The Poteau Boots and Badges Community Challenge blood drive will be held from 12:30-6 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Center, 105 Reynolds Ave. in Poteau. Donations benefit the Oklahoma Blood Institute, and all donors will receive a Boots and Badges t-shirt while supplies last.

Library to host free programs
The Fort Smith Public Library will host several free programs for babies, teens and families including:
• Laptime Story Time for babies up to 24 months old and their caregivers, 10:30 a.m. every Monday in July, Miller Branch Library, 8701 S. 28th St. Call (479) 646-3945.

Gun and knife show slated
A gun and knife show will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 7 and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 8 at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Center, 105 Reynolds Ave. in Poteau. Setup will be from 1-8 p.m. July 6, and unclaimed tables will be reassigned at 11 a.m. July 7.
