  • A rummage sale fund-raiser is being planned at Phillips Community College of the University of Arkansas-Helena-West Helena this weekend to support single parents working toward a degree.
The rummage sale will be held indoors from 7 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, in the PCCUA gym and will feature new and older items, household items, furniture, and women, children’s and men’s clothing and accessories. All proceeds will benefit the Phillips County Single Parent Scholarship Fund.
The fund provides supplemental financial assistance (up to $500 per semester) to single parents who are pursuing a course of instruction, which will improve their income and earning potential. Scholarship monies may be used for tuition, books, utility bills, car maintenance, childcare, etc.
Single parents selected for financial assistance must be residents of Phillips County and single heads of a household with custody of a minor child. They must be high school graduates or have obtained a GED and must be pursuing an undergraduate course of study. In addition, applicants must be the recipients of a Pell Grant, must have and maintain a 2.50 GPA, and must be full-time students (with a minimum of 12 hours). The deadlines to apply for the Phillips County Single Parent Scholarship are Aug. 31 for each fall semester and Jan. 31 for each spring semester.
Please support the rummage sale by purchasing items this Saturday. Monetary contributions may also be made to the Phillips County Single Parent Scholarship Fund at PCCUA, P.O. Box 785, Helena, AR 72342.
