  • Raymond Lovelady, affectionately known as “Ray”, was born March 25, 1958 to Lillian Lovelady and Willie Frank Gordon in the Southland community.

  • Raymond Lovelady, affectionately known as “Ray”, was born March 25, 1958 to Lillian Lovelady and Willie Frank Gordon in the Southland community. 
    He was converted and baptized at the Spring Lake Missionary Baptist Church.  At the age of 14, Ray was ordained to preach under the leadership of Rev. C. L. Bryant, then the pastor of Spring Lake M. B. Church.
      
    Ray was married to Willette Lovelady and they celebrated 26 years of marriage and companionship.  To this union, one child was born, Serjio Tyler Lovelady. 
     Ray was educated in the Phillips County public schools and was a 1975 graduate of Barton High School.  Upon graduating, he served first in the U. S. Army and then in the U. S. Air Force, completing a total of 10 years military service from 1975 to 1985.  
    Ray received a Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Ill. Following his military service, Ray pursued a career as a computer systems analyst and contracted with numerous companies. During his military career and while working as a contractor, Ray traveled to Germany, Japan, Canada, Jerusalem, and South America.
    His twin brother, Rueben Lovelady, and his father Willie Frank Gordon, preceded him in death.
      Ray entered into rest on Friday, May 16, 2014 in Durham, N.C. at the VA Medical Center.
      He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Willette Lovelady, five sons, Sergio Tyler Lovelady of Raleigh, N.C., Raymond Rhodeman Jr. (Jasmin) of Des Moines, Iowa, Michael Anthony Robinson (Shamieka) of Columbus, Ohio, Devin Crumpton of Helena and Ronald Evans (Nicole) of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; eight grandchildren, Brandon, Chantell, D’Shawn Raymond, Antwan, De’Andre, Hadley, Raven, Kaiden; his mother, Lillian Lovelady; a brother, Sylvester Lovelady; a sister, Zebbie Gordon; uncles, aunts, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  
    Funeral services for Raymond Lee Lovelady will be held 11 a.m. May 24 at Springlake M.B. Church. Rev. C.L. Bryant will officiate. Burial will be in Springlake Cemetery.
