  • Willis Lee “David” Walker, the second child of Elva Walker, was born Dec. 4, 1985 at Parklon Hospital, Dallas Texas.  He departed this life April 30, 2014 in Pensacola, Fla.  He was baptized at Pettis Memorial C.E.M. Church in 1985. 
    His family returned to Texas, but moved back to Helena-West Helena in 1990. He was a member of the Sunday School, Junior Ushers, Choir and CYF.  He was president of the CYF during his teenage years. 
    David’s great grandparents, Rev. Virgie Gant and Lay Leader Brother C.T Gant encouraged, trained and included his participation in District and Annual Conferences, children and youth competitions.  He exhibited a passion for being included in many religious activities and was main a speaker for the Youth and Young Adult Week in Blytheville and other occasions.
    David, in his young adult life, became a volunteer encourager and helper for the elderly where his outgoing enthusiasm cheered up many adults.  David attended the Lake View Elementary School and graduated from C.V. White High School in 2004.  During his high school years, he was active in the Nancy E. Proffitt Federated Boys Club.  He won many awards for speaking and Club work.  He received two prestigious scholarships from the National Association of Colored Women’s Club to attend Talladega College in Talladega, Ala.  He was awarded the Hallie Q. Brown Scholarship and the Dr. Patricia Fletcher Scholarship.  While in college, he organized a tennis club and was active in the NAACP Voter Registration Drive.  He relocated to Pensacola where he lived with his aunt and uncle and cousin David Boss.
    He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents Theautis and Verbie June Walker, paternal grandparents, Johnnie and Josie Walker, great grandparents, Cortelyou and Virgie A. Gant, great aunt Elva G. Butler, and other family members.
    He leaves to cherish his memory, a loving mother, Elva Walker Scypion of Helena-West Helena; a loving Aunt Vera and Uncle Williams Boss of Pensacola, Fla.; siblings, Jack Louis (Mable) Walker of Dallas Texas, Joautis C. (Lakeisha) Walker of Fort Worth Texas, Verbie June (Mahlon) Walker of Helena-West Helena, Virgie Lee (Gary) Thompson of Little Rock, Vera Mae (James) Walker of Dallas, Sidney Scypion IV and Elva Latoria Walker, both of Houston Texas; uncles, Donald (Melissa) Gant of Desoto Texas, Edward (Lori) Walker of Denton Texas, Theautis (Kathy) Walker, Jr., Jo Walker (Emanual) Ighorn, Johnnie Lee (Betty) Walker all of Arlington TX, Johnnie Lee (Tarsha) Walker of Forth Worth, William Curtdale Walker of Arlington Texas; and a host of nephew, nieces, cousins and friends.
    Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Pettis Memorial C.M.E. Church Funeral services will follow immediately at the church at 2p.m.  Interment will be in Jackson Memorial Cemetery at Southland AR.
