  • The American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) has recognized Ryan Clawson and Cassie Hargrove, both of DeWitt, and Julie Stockford, of St. Charles, as outstanding students in the Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program at Phillips Community College.
Attending classes on the PCCUA-Helena-West Helena campus, Clawson, Hargrove, and Stockford have each been awarded a $1,000 national scholarship sponsored by Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics and the ASCP. The purpose of this award is to help defray education costs, promote medical laboratory science as a rewarding career, and help address the workforce shortage of qualified professionals.
The ASCP and Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics celebrate the future of medical laboratory professions by awarding scholarships to students who have achieved a level of success that merits recognition. These scholarships assist students in balancing their full-time studies and expenses, which arise in the course of their educational endeavors.
Julie Pittman, PCCUAMLT/PLB instructor, noted that each of these students maintains an excellent academic record and is very deserving of this recognition. Their selection was based on academic achievement in their laboratory medicine studies, as well as leadership and community involvement.
