Ugie Mae Banks, 85, of Marvell, passed away Feb. 24, 2014 at St. Vincent Hospital in Little Rock. Sister Ugie Mae Gibson-Banks was born Sept. 26, 1928 to the late James and Annie Gibson of Marvell. She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age.
Ugie Mae Gibson married Willie Lee Banks, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Mae, as we all knew her, lived a life that was acceptable unto God. She was a strong leader, a great provider, a loving wife and mother and an awesome grandmother. She was a very family-oriented woman that enjoyed the company of her family and friends.
Along with her parents and her husband of 50 years, Willie Lee Banks, she was also preceded in death by her son, Willie James Banks, her grandson, Anthony Whiteside Banks, her sister, Catholia Burton and her brothers, Eli, Charlie and Walter Gibson.
She leaves to cherish her legacy, five daughters, Willie Ann Williams of Chesapeake, Va., Alma Banks, Alberta Banks, Arberdella Starr and Luvon Lewis of Marvell; a son, Ulyssess Banks Sr. of Kansas City, Mo.; six sisters-in-law, Eula Gines, Mary Murrell, Luberta Hoskins and Earnestine Williams, all of Marvell, Geneva Gibson of Dumas and Martha Tate of Chicago, Ill.; 27 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, March 7at Kincaid Funeral Services East Chapel, 1160 Springdale Road, in Helena. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 8 St. Matthew M.B. Church in Marvell. Rev. Jerome Turner will officiate. Burial will follow in Long Valley Cemetery.
