  • Arkansas' largest utility says it has reduced the number of power outages to below 16,000 following a winter storm that hit the state.
    Entergy Arkansas said the number of outages had been reduced from a high of 27,600 to about 15,800 by Monday afternoon and said the majority of customers are expected to have power restored by late Tuesday. The company said most of the outages are in eastern Arkansas and that it may be Wednesday before all service is restored.
    The Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas, which includes 17 distribution cooperatives across the state, reported about 7,600 outages Monday afternoon — down from about 8,000 Monday morning.
    The hardest hit areas are in the eastern Arkansas counties of Phillips, Crittenden, Mississippi, Saint Francis, Woodruff and Craighead.
