Work on the Highway 49 Mississippi River Bridge requiring a lane closure near Helena has been rescheduled for Monday, Feb. 17 through Sunday, March 2 according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department officials.
The Mississippi Department of Transportation says a crew will be installing conduit along the bridge railings. The conduit will eventually be used by electronic equipment designed to monitor the current in the Mississippi River. That new device will be installed at a later time.
The lane closures will take place between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., each day, weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using barrels, warning signs, and flaggers. This work was scheduled to beginning on Wednesday, Feb. 12, but was postponed due to weather.
Any questions about this project should be directed to the Mississippi Department of Transportation at 601-359-7225.
Motorists should exercise caution when approaching and traveling through all highway work zones. Additional travel information can be found at IDriveArkansas.com or ArkansasHighways.com. You can also follow us on Twitter @AHTD.
