  • It wasn't exactly chestnuts roasting on an open fire that prompted a concerned Phillips County citizen to contact the local sheriff concerning a fire along the railroad tracks near Latour Road on Dec. 18. According to the incident report filed by the Sheriff's Office, the caller apparently believed the site was being used for illegally burning trash. Lt. Sylvester Rose responded to the call and investigated the incident. Rose discovered an unguarded trash pile in the middle of the railroad tracks and discovered what was remaining of a crystal meth lab. A garbage bag contained several items associated with a meth lab, reported Rose. “I walked south down Latour Road and found two other large black plastic bags that contained several, what appeared to be more than one meth lab in the bags,” Rose commented in his report. Rose reported that an investigation is ongoing as to who dumped the meth labs in the area.
