The American Music Awards hit a four-year high Sunday, while The Mentalist rose for its much-anticipated Red John conclusion.

The AMAs drew 12.9 million viewers and a 4.5 in the adults 18-to-49 demographic, surging 32 percent over last year's show. It was the night's highest-rated program outside of Sunday Night Football (24 million, 8.8).

The Mentalist nabbed 10.6 million and a 1.5 for its biggest audience since January and a one-tenth improvement from last week. The Amazing Race (8 million, 1.5) was down five tenths and The Good Wife (9.5 million, 1.3) slipped one tenth. CBS' numbers are slightly skewed from football delays in some markets.

Leading out of football, The Simpsons (6.5 million, 2.9) and Bob's Burgers (4 million, 1.9) saw huge bumps, while Family Guy (4.5 million, 2.2) and American Dad! (3.8 million, 1.8) were flat and up a tenth, respectively.
