  • Helena Holiday Festival to ring in the Christmas season

  • A weeklong holiday extravaganza will officially usher in the “most wonderful time of the year” in Phillips County. Officially called the Helena Holiday Festival, the big Christmas event will begin at 5 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 1 and continue until 8 p.m. in the Court Square Park just across the street from the historic courthouse. The festival will continue through Sunday, Dec. 8.

  • A weeklong holiday extravaganza will officially usher in the “most wonderful time of the year” in Phillips County. Officially called the Helena Holiday Festival, the big Christmas event will begin at 5 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 1 and continue until 8 p.m. in the Court Square Park just across the street from the historic courthouse. The festival will continue through Sunday, Dec. 8. At 5 p.m., the acrylic ice-skating rink will open to free public skating. Activities will continue at 6 p.m. with the lighting of the Court Square Park Christmas tree. There also will be church choir performances, a Christmas sing-along, and of course, a special guest appearance by old Santa himself. Free public skating will continue from 4 to 6 p.m. on Monday, evening, Dec. 2 as well as Tuesday, Dec. 3, also from 4 to 6 p.m. The traditional lighting of the tree of lights will take place at Helena Regional Medical Center Monday evening at 5:30. The annual Helena-West Helena Christmas Parade will highlight Friday night, Dec. 6. According to Laketha Brown, parade committee chair, the parade will begin at 6 p.m. on Plaza Street and will conclude on Sebastian. Line up for the parade, said Brown, will begin promptly at 5 p.m. This year's parade theme is “A Charlie Brown Christmas.” The parade will consist of floats, singers, dancers, bands and other entertainment, plus motorcycles, classic cars and equestrian units. “We are encouraging everyone to participate,” commented Brown. “Please come out and help make our parade a success.” To participate, contact Brown at 870-995-1330 or e-mail lakethabh@hotmail.com or Karen Williams at 918-770-2315 or email kwilliam@msha.org. On Saturday, Dec. 7, Delta Ink, a live showcase for writers wanting to share their stories of Delta living, will be presented on Biscuit Row at 330 Phillips St. Helena's Holiday Festival will conclude Sunday, Dec. 8 with performances of the Warfield Concert “Happy Holidays”, a Helena Little Theater/Phillips College production, at 2:30 and 7 p.m. The Helena Holiday Festival Committee, the Helena Advertising & Promotions Commission, Helena Little Theater, PCCUA and Helena Regional Medical Center are sponsoring the festival.
