Colleagues, friends and family are mourning the loss of longtime Phillips County sheriff's deputy Robert Nearns Sr.
Nearns was found dead in his patrol car on Phillips County Road 623, just off Highway 16 near Connell's Point and south of Marvell. According to a spokesperson for the Phillips County Sheriff's Office, Nearns had been dispatched to investigate a burglary alarm around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday.
When Nearns failed to report back to the dispatcher officers were sent out to look for him and found him dead in the car about six miles south of Marvell.
Authorities say foul play is not suspected.
The PSCO spokesman reported that Nearns' body was sent to the state medical examiner's office to determine the exact cause of death, but a health issue is the suspected cause.
Nearns, 58, was a 25-year veteran of law enforcement. He had been with the PSCO for more than 17 years.
Nearns' body was discovered within 25 minutes after he failed to report back to the dispatcher, the PSCO spokesman stated.
